PDF to mind map
Upload a PDF, or a photo of your notes, and get its key ideas as an editable mind map. Free, no signup.
Your mind map appears here, branch by branch.
What it works well on
- Lecture slides and handouts exported as PDF: headings become branches, bullet points become details.
- Textbook chapters and articles: ask it to focus on one section if the document is long.
- Photos of handwritten notes or a whiteboard after a meeting or class: one clear, well-lit photo per page.
- Reports and papers: a quick map of the argument before you read in detail.
Already have the text? Paste it into the AI mind map generator, or, if it’s already an outline, into text to mind map, which runs entirely in your browser.
Make the map your own
A generated map is a summary, not understanding. Once it is open in the mind map maker, delete what you already know, rewrite labels in your own words and add cross-links between branches. Then export it as a PDF to print or PNG for slides.
Need a structure instead? Start from one of the mind map templates, such as the book summary or exam revision map.
Questions people ask
How do I turn a PDF into a mind map?
Choose the PDF (up to 3 MB), optionally say what to focus on, and press “Make mind map”. The AI reads the document and returns its main ideas as branches; the map draws as it arrives. Open it in the editor to fix labels, move branches and export.
Can I make a mind map from a photo of my notes?
Yes. Take a photo of handwritten notes, a textbook page or a whiteboard and upload it as a JPG, PNG or WebP. The image is resized in your browser before it is sent, and the AI reads the text, including clear handwriting.
Is my file stored?
No. The file is sent once to the AI model through Vercel AI Gateway to build the outline and is not stored by MindMapFlow. The resulting map is saved only in your browser. Don’t upload confidential documents.
Why is there a 3 MB limit?
Uploads travel in a single request, and the hosting platform caps request size. For a long PDF, export just the chapter you need, or copy its text into the AI generator’s “From my notes” tab.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Usually, as long as the scan is sharp. The model reads the page images. Very faint or skewed scans give thinner maps; a clear photo of each page often works better.
Can I export the result to PDF again?
Yes. In the editor choose Export → PDF for an A4 page, or PNG, SVG, Markdown or JSON.
