How MindMapFlow Works
Data Storage
All your mind maps are stored exclusively in your browser's local storage:
- •IndexedDB: Used for storing your mind maps locally on your device
- •LocalStorage: Used for application preferences and settings
- •Your Device Only: Nothing is ever transmitted to our servers
- •Your Control: You can clear all data anytime via your browser settings
What This Means for You
✅ Complete Privacy: Your mind maps never leave your computer
✅ No Surveillance: We can't see what you create (even if we wanted to)
✅ Offline Capable: Works without internet after first load
✅ Data Ownership: Your data lives on your device, under your control
Data Retention
- •You Control Everything: Data persists until you clear your browser storage
- •Manual Deletion: Delete mind maps individually within the app
- •Clear All Data: Clear browser storage to remove all MindMapFlow data
- •No Server Backups: Since nothing is stored on servers, there are no server-side backups
What We Don't Do
❌ No Server-Side Storage: We don't store your mind maps on any server
❌ No User Accounts: No login system, no user database
❌ No Tracking: No Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no tracking scripts
❌ No Cookies: No tracking cookies of any kind
❌ No Third-Party Services: No data sent to external services
❌ No Email Collection: We don't have your email address
❌ No AI Processing: No AI services used (your data isn't sent anywhere)
Technical Details
Browser Storage
MindMapFlow uses standard web APIs to store data locally:
- •IndexedDB: Structured database in your browser (for mind maps)
- •LocalStorage: Key-value storage (for preferences)
- •Capacity: Typically 50MB+ per domain (varies by browser)
- •Scope: Data is isolated per browser and device
Clearing Your Data
To remove all MindMapFlow data:
- Chrome/Edge: Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data → Cookies and site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy → Clear Data → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data → Remove mindmapflow.io
Or within the app:
Use the delete button on individual mind maps in the "Recent Mind Maps" dialog
Export and Sharing
When you export or share your mind maps:
- •PNG/SVG/PDF Export: Files are generated locally in your browser and downloaded to your device
- •Copy to Clipboard: Data stays on your device
- •No Upload: Exports never touch our servers
- •Share Links: Future sharing features may encode mind map data in URLs (still no server storage)
Security
Your Responsibility
Since all data is stored in your browser:
- •Device Security: Keep your device secure with passwords/encryption
- •Browser Security: Keep your browser updated
- •Public Computers: Avoid using MindMapFlow on public/shared computers, or clear data after use
- •Backups: Export important mind maps as files for backup
Our Responsibility
- •HTTPS: All connections use encrypted HTTPS
- •No Data Breach Risk: Can't breach what we don't have
- •Open Source Spirit: Code is reviewable (transparent)
Children's Privacy
MindMapFlow is safe for all ages:
- •No data collection means COPPA compliance
- •No registration required
- •No personal information requested
- •Safe for classroom and educational use
