Privacy Policy

Your privacy is our #1 priority

Last Updated: November 16, 2025

The Simple Truth

Mind maps stay local - Your ideas live in your browser's storage, never on our servers.

Browser-only storage - All data stays on your device

Privacy-friendly analytics only - We run Ahrefs Web Analytics to count visits—no cookies, no personal profiles, and zero access to your mind maps.

You own your data - Complete control and privacy

Our Privacy Commitment

MindMapFlow is built with your privacy as the #1 priority. We believe your ideas and mind maps belong to you and you alone.

We can't see your mind maps, we don't track your ideas, and we never will. Your thoughts stay on your device.

How MindMapFlow Works

Data Storage

All your mind maps are stored exclusively in your browser's local storage:

  • IndexedDB: Used for storing your mind maps locally on your device
  • LocalStorage: Used for application preferences and settings
  • Your Device Only: Nothing is ever transmitted to our servers
  • Your Control: You can clear all data anytime via your browser settings

What This Means for You

Complete Privacy

Your mind maps never leave your computer

No Surveillance

We can't see what you create

Offline Capable

Works without internet after first load

Data Ownership

Your data lives on your device, under your control

Data Retention

  • You Control Everything: Data persists until you clear your browser storage
  • Manual Deletion: Delete mind maps individually within the app
  • Clear All Data: Clear browser storage to remove all MindMapFlow data
  • No Server Backups: Since nothing is stored on servers, there are no server-side backups

What We Don't Do

No Server-Side Storage

We don't store your mind maps on any server

No User Accounts

No login system, no user database

No Ad Tracking

No Google Analytics or marketing pixels

No Tracking Cookies

We run cookieless analytics

No Data Brokers

We never share or sell analytics data

No Email Collection

We don't have your email address

Third-Party Services

MindMapFlow uses two third-party services:

Ahrefs Web Analytics

We run Ahrefs Web Analytics on every page to understand traffic trends and spot regressions. It never receives any of your mind map content.

What it collects

  • Page URL, title, and referrer
  • Browser, operating system, and viewport size
  • Approximate country/region (IP is aggregated before we see reports)
  • Engagement metrics like time on page, scroll depth, and clicks

What it never sees

  • Mind map structure, node text, or exports
  • Personal identifiers, usernames, or email addresses
  • Per-user browsing history or fingerprints
  • Persistent cookies (Ahrefs runs cookieless measurement)

Analytics data stays inside Ahrefs. We only review aggregate dashboards to answer questions like "Did the new onboarding flow drop completion rates?" and we never sell or share the metrics.

Vercel AI Gateway

When you explicitly use AI features (AI Expand, AI Auto-Complete, AI Summarize), your request is processed through Vercel's AI Gateway. Only the specific node text you're expanding and optional context is sent. Your complete mind map is never transmitted. AI processing happens only when you click an AI button.

Important: We do not use Google Analytics, Plausible, advertising networks, tracking pixels, cloud databases for your mind maps, or authentication providers. Ahrefs Web Analytics and Vercel AI Gateway are the only third-party services.

Technical Details

Browser Storage

MindMapFlow uses standard web APIs to store data locally:

  • IndexedDB: Structured database in your browser (for mind maps)
  • LocalStorage: Key-value storage (for preferences)
  • Capacity: Typically 50MB+ per domain (varies by browser)
  • Scope: Data is isolated per browser and device

Clearing Your Data

To remove all MindMapFlow data:

  • Chrome/Edge: Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data → Cookies and site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy → Clear Data → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data → Remove mindmapflow.io

Or within the app:

Use the delete button on individual mind maps in the "Recent Mind Maps" dialog

Export and Sharing

When you export or share your mind maps:

  • PNG/SVG/PDF Export: Files are generated locally in your browser and downloaded to your device
  • Copy to Clipboard: Data stays on your device
  • No Upload: Exports never touch our servers
  • Share Links: Future sharing features may encode mind map data in URLs (still no server storage)

Security

Your Responsibility

Since all data is stored in your browser:

  • Device Security: Keep your device secure with passwords/encryption
  • Browser Security: Keep your browser updated
  • Public Computers: Avoid using MindMapFlow on public/shared computers, or clear data after use
  • Backups: Export important mind maps as files for backup

Our Responsibility

  • HTTPS: All connections use encrypted HTTPS
  • No Data Breach Risk: Can't breach what we don't have
  • Open Source Spirit: Code is reviewable (transparent)

Can't breach what we don't have. The best security is not collecting your data in the first place.

Children's Privacy

MindMapFlow is safe for all ages:

  • No data collection means COPPA compliance
  • No registration required
  • No personal information requested
  • Safe for classroom and educational use

The Bottom Line

MindMapFlow is privacy-first software.

Your mind maps are yours and yours alone. They live on your device, not our servers. We can't see them, we don't track them, and we don't want them.

This is how software should work.

Want to verify this? Open your browser's Network tab. You'll see requests to load MindMapFlow assets plus a single call to Ahrefs Web Analytics for aggregate metrics. You will not see your mind map data being transmitted.
